Summer 2011

August 2011.
I had my first solo exhibition this summer. It was rather nerve racking but I loved it. Everyone was very complimentary and I even sold some of my work!

June 2011.
I’ve just got back from a fabulous time drawing in Spain with Martyn Blundell - http://drawinginspain.blogspot.com/

We were so lucky with all the events which were going on and we did a lot of drawings :) !

We stayed in a wee village called 'Cutar' and everyone was so lovely, they let us join in on their village festival down in the riverbed and we got to be a part of the Cintas de Caballos (Ribbon of Horses) when the men of the village and other villages ride on horses and have to hook a ribbon from a line. I’m not very good at describing it but it was fantastic to watch and something completely different!

During the week we spent a day in Malaga (which was lovely to see as I have only ever been to the airport and not been into the city!); walked/scrabbled/hiked along the riverbed; went to a national park which was not your average park as it was almost completely made from stone; hit the beach; and spent time around the village. Sadly I didn’t take many photos as I was too busy drawing and soaking up the Spanish culture – I have spent a lot of time in Spain in the past and I love it there – however my friend jack did take a lot of photos so hopefully I will be able to steal a few to show you!

Over the week, as I said earlier, we did a lot of drawing and we had tutorials everyday which was really useful. Four of us were on the trip – 2 Textiles students, and 2 Illustration students – which I think was really good as we got to see what the other course/uni get up to and we all had different drawing techniques/interests. I spent the week just drawing what interested me, and I ended up really wanting to develop my skills of drawing faces, as I love to draw people but am never very good at the face. So Martyn helped me be a bit more confident in my drawing skills and gave me some hints and tips as to how to draw faces. I am so please with my drawings which I did in Spain and am definitely going to continue to develop and hopefully improve my drawing of the summer.

Muchas Gracias Martyn!
